  • How to perform primary diagnostic studies
  • How to carry out systematic reviews in laboratory medicine
  • How to make evidence-based guideline recommendations in laboratory medicine
  • How to implement evidence-based diagnostic guidelines in clinical practice

3.       Promote the international dissemination of and collaboration in EBLM

How to become a member or corresponding member of the committee?

The organisational framework of IFCC Divisions and Committees can be viewed in the IFCC handbook.

To become a member or corresponding member of the committee, candidates should submit a formal application with a brief plan (max. 250 words) of their contribution to the aims and objectives of the C-EBLM. A short CV (max. 1 page), underlining the qualifications and prior experience or publications in evidence-based (laboratory) medicine, should also be attached. Members and corresponding members should be officially recommended by their National Society and a formal letter of support should accompany the application. Applications will be reviewed and officially endorsed by the Executive Committee of the Education and Management Division (EC-EMD) of IFCC, and the EMD and/or C-EBLM chair will officially inform successful candidates.

Applications, including:

  • the application form
  • a letter of support signed by the president of the candidate's national society, and
  • curriculum vitae of the candidate

should be addressed to the chairperson of the committee

Members are appointed for a period of 3 years which is renewable for one additional term. The maximum number of members in the committee is 4. Members should have prior knowledge and experience in EBM or EBLM. Members are expected to participate actively in the activities of the Committee. Membership involves approximately 2-3 days commitment per month. Failure to contribute significantly may result in the loss of membership.

Corresponding members: The committee is open to corresponding membership from member organisations of IFCC. One corresponding member should represent the IFCC member state in the committee. Applications are welcome from countries which are not yet represented in the committee (see membership area). Corresponding members should be interested in evidence based medicine. Prior experience in evidence-based methodology is an advantage. Candidates should be active in EBLM or related fields in their own countries. Corresponding members are expected to form a link and a communication channel between the C-EBLM and the relevant national professional organisation(s).

Corresponding membership involves approximately one day commitment per month.

Consultants are either former members of C-EBLM or external experts who support the activities of the committee and advise on specific matters, at the request of the chairperson of the committee.
