It is with great pleasure that we announce that Professor Mario Plebani, the IFCC Editor of Documents, has been selected to receive the 2008 American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC) award “Outstanding Clinical Laboratory Contributions to Improving Patient Safety.” This award (formerly known as the Outstanding Clinical Laboratory Contributions to Patient Safety Award from 2005-2007) recognizes outstanding clinical laboratory contributions to improving patient safety through the use of innovative technologies, application of quality processes and their management, enhanced utilization of resources and/or the novel use of operational metrics. Professor Plebani is Chair of the IFCC working group on laboratory errors and patient safety and has received previous awards for contributions to clinical laboratory management sciences. Past recipients of this award are Ms. Lucia Berte, Dr. Michael Astion and Dr. D. Joe Boone.
