Milan, 24 April 2020 - The IFCC, the international leading organization in the field of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, is pleased to announce that Dr Thomas ANNESLEY (Professor Emeritus of Clinical Chemistry, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor - USA), has been selected to receive the IFCC Award for Distinguished Contributions in Education sponsored by Abbott Diagnostics.
This award honours an individual who has made extraordinary contributions in establishing and developing educational materials for our discipline to improve training and educational programs worldwide or in a region. The IFCC is very pleased to acknowledge the support from Abbott Diagnostics. in the recognition of scientists and educators with a distinguished career in this area.
Dr Annesley has made seminal educational contributions to the field of clinical chemistry. One of Dr Annesley’s major impacts in education concerns training colleagues and students in medical writing and publishing. He has developed educational materials related to writing, ethics, peer review, and the publishing environment. These materials include a “Guide to Scientific Writing” and a “Guide to Peer Review.” Another of his accomplishments in education relates to mass spectrometry that he introduced many laboratories. Dr Annesley’s held many roles at the University of Michigan where he directly contributed to the education of more than 180 residents, fellows, and visiting students.

Doctor Annesley along with nine other IFCC Distinguished Award winners will be formally announced on Wednesday 6th January 2021 at the Opening Ceremony of the 24th WorldLab - IFCC International Congress in Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine to be held in Seoul (South Korea) from 6th to 10th January 2021.
