As of January 1st 2006, Philippe Gillery, MD, PhD, is a new member of the IFCC-SD. Philippe Gillery is currently Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Faculty of Medicine of Reims, France, and Chairman of the Laboratory of Biology and Paediatric Research of the American Memorial Hospital, and the President of the Medical Council of the University Hospital of Reims, France. His major scientific field of interest is the study of relationships between extracellular matrix proteins and inflammatory cells in health and disease. He is mainly involved in research projects on the pathological roles of non enzymatic post-translational modifications of proteins (i.e. glycation, oxidation, carbamylation) encountered in diabetes mellitus, atherosclerosis, renal insufficiency, metabolic disorders and ageing. He has been involved for 20 years in the development and the standardization of glycated protein assays (i.e. : HbA1c, fructosamines) and lipid parameters. He has particularly studied the biological variations of specific glycated proteins (Lipoprotein(a), β2 microglobulin) in diabetes or renal insufficiency, and their potential involvement in pathophysiological processes. He has published over 110 articles in peer-reviewed journals, and co-edited two books of general Biochemistry.
